Texas Lieutenant Governor Praises Orlando Mass Shooting, Mocks Victims In Horrendous Tweet
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick released a Tweet on Sunday that openly supported the Orlando mass shooting carried out just hours earlier by 29-year old Omar Mateen, an American-born domestic terrorist who claimed allegiance to ISIS.
The mass shooting, which was classified this morning as a domestic terrorist attack, occurred in an LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida in the early morning hours on Sunday. As of this article being written, 50 people are confirmed dead and 53 others were wounded, making it the deadliest mass shooting in American history.
Most Americans woke up and saw the news as shocking as it was horrifying, but not Dan Patrick, who showed just how gruesome the American Taliban can be with a hateful, ignorant, volatile post made to his Twitter account at 9 am this morning, just hours after the mass shooting in Orlando.
Patrick’s post read:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
Patrick later removed the disgusting Tweet from his Twitter account before releasing this rambling message wherein he claims the Tweet was scheduled to be published in advance, on Thursday. He then went on to do what the American Taliban does best: turn his hateful remark around and blame it on liberals:
“The verse has nothing to do with God’s judgement on any one person or a specific group of people. If some chose to read into it what they wanted they either have never read Galatians Chapter 6 or have misread it. […] Let me be clear, I didn’t pull down the FB post & tweet because God’s word is wrong. […] I took it down to stop the hateful comments and the misinformation being spread of God’s message to all of us- straight or gay.”
Patrick’s Twitter account is no stranger to anti-LGBT posts. The Lieutenant Governor has been on an anti-transgender crusade for several months and has posted other anti-LGBT remarks as well, buried in a landfill of rifle giveaways, endorsements of republican candidates, and mountains of generic right-wing ramblings.
Dan Patrick owes America, and the LGBT community in particular, an apology for his disgusting Tweet. He needs to condemn the Orlando terrorist attack — he still hasn’t done that, as of this hour — and acknowledge it as not just a terror attack, but a hate crime against the LGBT community. And if he doesn’t do that, let’s hope the good people of Texas force decency upon this sleazebag by showing him the door when he’s up for reelection.
