Let it be known to all liberal Americans that Debbie Wasserman Schultz is no longer deemed worthy of carrying her liberal card. Should you encounter her, please remove said card from her possession, tear it up (preferably with dramatic flair), and throw the scraps in her face, preferably while making jokes. If you aren’t very funny, please refrain from the jokes, and insert a snide remark instead.
Let’s take a look at her offenses, shall we?
She’s In The Tank For Hillary
As Chairwoman of the DNC, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has a duty to serve ALL democrats and Democratic Party candidates… not just the ones she used to work for or has a “special relationship” with. Her ties with Hillary Clinton are fine, but the moment she starts making decisions on behalf of the DNC as a whole that strictly favor Clinton, it’s time for her to go. Decisions like the ones involving the debate schedule, which we’ll get to, well, right now.
Restrictive Debate Schedule
Debbie Wasserman Schultz has made a mockery of this debate schedule, and has done so in ways that strongly benefit Hillary Clinton and are unnecessarily detrimental to smaller campaigns. The debates are scheduled too late in the year (two of them are happening after early primaries and caucuses, even), and are taking place mostly on weekends and during holiday periods when viewership will be remarkably low. This strips from those less-famous candidates any chance of the debates bringing attention to their campaigns or causes, and worse, the schedule benefits only a single candidate: Hillary Clinton. A candidate who herself has said she’d be open to more debates. Wasserman Schultz’ debate schedule is grossly favorable to Hillary Clinton, and shows painfully poor leadership on her part.
Iran Deal Inaction
Wasserman Schultz has been rather flippant with regards to the Obama Administration’s Iran deal. She does support it, but has kept the deal at arm’s length, due largely to the large swath of Jewish voters in her district (despite polls showing that a majority of Jewish-Americans support the Iran deal). As DNC Chair, Wasserman Schultz has a responsibility to show solidarity with our President, especially when the right-wing hyperbolic vitriol knob has been cranked up to eleven and broken off. Wasserman Schultz should be rallying Democrats behind this deal, not playing it extra-safe and minding after her own perceived job security and political ambitions. Which brings us to our next point…
Putting Her Own Political Ambition Before The Party
Debbie Wasserman Schultz has repeatedly exhibited that she values her own career above the needs of her constituents, the desires of the American public, the morality of progressivism, and the future of the Democratic Party. She’s repeatedly proven her disloyalty to the American people and to her party, and has done little to promote progressive values.
There was a time, not all that long ago, when she and Hillary Clinton weren’t the best of friends: 2008, when Wasserman Schultz, then serving as the co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, reportedly reached out to the Obama campaign before the primary had even ended, attempting to pledge her allegiance and secure a lifeboat for herself before the whole ship sank. This is just one of the many, many examples of Wasserman Schultz opting to put the cart before the mule, or perhaps, the donkey. She’s loyal to herself first, her friends second, and the Democratic Party third, if at all.
Blowing the 2014 Midterms
The 2014 midterms should’ve been in the bag. Republicans had shut down the government for nearly three weeks in 2013, and that in itself should’ve handed Democrats easy House and Senate majorities. What happened instead? Republicans kept the House and Democrats LOST the Senate.
As the DNC Chair, Wasserman Schultz played a key role in this epic, biblical failure. Rather than rallying the party behind President Obama and using a show of force to correct popular misconceptions and right-wing lies about the Obama administration, Wasserman Shultz allowed the entire party to distance itself from President Obama and his massive list of accomplishments, a list that the American public should know more about, but don’t… largely because of people like Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
There was no Democratic party mobilization in 2014. None. Not one sign of party unity, not a single push toward grassroots-building, not a hint of getting the vote out. Republicans didn’t win in 2014 so much as Democrats lost, and Wasserman Shultz’ piss-poor leadership can take a pretty big chunk of that blame.
It’s Just Been Revoked!
For these affronts and many, many others, we’re taking Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ liberal card from her. She’s no longer authorized to refer to herself a liberal or a progressive, and any effort on her part to do so should be considered invalid and without sanction or merit. She should be fired from her post as DNC Chairwoman and left to her own devices with her reelection efforts, without Democratic Party support. She’s taken enough from the Democratic Party, and hasn’t given anything back. From now on, she should be on her own.
